The geyser (water heater) consumes between 30% and 40% of the total household electricity usage. Switching to a solar water heater is the wise thing to do. Before you move to PV generated backup solar electricity (which has a solar energy conversion rate of around 17%) first replace or retrofit your existing geyser with a solar geyser (which has a conversion rate of between 30% and 40%). WHAT DO WE DO?

CREST Solar (Pty) Ltd was established in 2009 with the sole purpose of developing a solar water heater for Africa at a fraction of the historical cost of conventionally manufactured solar water heaters. It has subsequently developed a 100% polymer (plastic) Solar Water Heater – a first in the world, and manufactured in South Africa.

HOW DO WE DO IT?

CREST manufactures its products using high tech injection blow moulding processes to manufacture components to build a polyethylene leak-free, corrosion-resistant solar water heater as opposed to the welding up of stainless steel tanks which the majority of competitors still use. CREST has established itself as a major player in the SWH environment after successfully delivering 6500 SABS approved, corrosion-free, hail and frost resistant Solar Water Heaters by the set deadlines to the Department of Energy (DOE) during 2017/2018. CREST is currently registered on the DOE's database as a preferred Solar Water Heater supplier.

WHY DO WE DO IT?

Our mission is to provide access to hot water for all African people who could not previously afford it.

Improving the quality of life via increased hygiene and therefore restoring dignity.

Local solar water heater factories will create jobs and reduce carbon emissions due to the supply of solar geysers rather than electrical geysers.
